Endorsed Candidate for International Trustee - Oscar Knight

Oscar Knight     As he promised in his campaign for Cal-Nev-Ha Governor for 2007-2008, Oscar became a catalyst for change. He didn’t do things the way they had always been done. He focused on the clubs, not on the bureaucracy. He and his wife Gladys focused on serving our communities, especially the youth. He aggressively supported the change in the District’s governance, knowing first-hand how difficult it was to visit 44 Lt. Governors, and applauds the District for adopting the new structure of 18 Regional Trustees. The new governance will save the District money and will provide corporate memory in the management of the District. He continues to be in great demand as an inspirational and motivational speaker, with a great heart for Kiwanis. With a Master’s Degree in Finance, Oscar is owner broker of Knight Financial Services, a full service mortgage brokerage in La Mesa. He has been a banker, a college instructor, and a basketball coach. He served our country – ten years as a Captain in the U.S. Army, including two tours in Vietnam, and earned the Bronze Star. Oscar is a life-long athlete – he was a Silver Medalist in the National Senior Olympics in basketball, and a torchbearer for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Oscar first joined Kiwanis in 1979, the Downtown San Diego Club. Then in 1988 Oscar joined the La Mesa Club. He has been club President, Kiwanian of the Year, Lt. Governor of Division 31, and President of the Division 100 Miracle Mile of Quarters San Diego Club. Oscar led the response of Division 31 clubs to the devastating fires of 2005 and 2007, gathering and delivering needed tools, everyday supplies and food, and administering the disbursement of nearly One Million Dollars to fire victims – a donation from Sycuan. He currently serves as a club director and is membership chairman of the La Mesa club. Oscar was a breath of fresh air to the clubs and sponsored youth programs of Cal-Nev-Ha. It is his hope that as the endorsed candidate for International Trustee, with the support of the rank and file Kiwanians, together, we can refocus our efforts on the Mission of Kiwanis and the Children of the World, and we can continue to Celebrate Service.
