As glow sticks blazed, symbolizing the lighting of our
inner fire for
service, Governor‐designate Tom Millham said during the
convention’s Installation Dinner on Saturday night that we all have
a steady, glowing, burning fire within us. Tom, a Kiwanian from the
Tahoe Sierra club said, “We need your enthusiasm, your
openness to new ideas, your willingness to work harder than ever,
your resources, your youthful spirit.
Let’s work together as our passion burns for another amazing
Kiwanis year.” |

On October 1, 2010, Tom will become the Governor of the California‐Nevada‐Hawaii District for the 2010‐2011 administrative year. |
He plans to accomplish his goals of membership, service and fun by focusing on the BEAR:
B – Bring in new members
E – Encourage others to serve
A – Always have fun and
R – Recruit and retention

2008‐2011 District Trustees: Dave Schmitt, Nelson Tucker, Irish John Gore, Robert S. “Bob” Young, Rae Whitby‐Brummer and Julie Brahmst
2009‐2012 District Trustees: Ken Umbarger, Roberta Bliss,
Richard P. “Dick” Brown, John Warwick, Roy A. Kagawa (and a new Trustee will be elected from Region 6 to replace newly‐elected District Treasurer Al Sieczkowski)
2010‐2013 District Trustees: Ken Dilley, John Hunt, Wil Morgan, Richard F. “Dick” Huhn, Walter Morton and Elvia Rivas
Our District’s counselor from Kiwanis International is Vice‐President‐designate Tom DeJulio.
Also, after being elected at the International Convention
in June, Cal‐Nev‐Ha’s own Past District Governor Oscar E.
Knight, III will serve on the International level as an
International Trustee.

Amendments Considered at the 90th Annual District Convention
during the House of Delegates in Reno, Nevada on Saturday, August 21,

Adopted:
Amendment #1: Restatement of the Bylaws
Provides a comprehensive cleanup and refinement of the District’s
Bylaws to address, define and clarify situations and events not previously covered in the Bylaws.
Amendment #2: Discipline of District Officers
Conforms our District Bylaws to the amendment to the Standard
Form of District Bylaws approved as Amendment #2 at the Kiwanis International Convention on June 25, 2010.
Defeated:
Amendment #3: Trustee System
Adjusts the present system of Governance for the District by removing the
eighteen (18) District Trustees elected by regions. Negates District Regional
Trustees as a district office. Returns California‐Nevada‐Hawaii District Lt.
Governors as members of the Board of Trustees, while retaining all other
current responsibilities. Removes from the California‐Nevada‐Hawaii District
the territories referred to as regions and returns the territorial limits to
divisions. Deletes from California‐Nevada‐Hawaii District bylaws any and all
reference to regions or regional trustees.
Withdrawn:
Amendment #4: Alcohol
Prohibits District funds from being used to purchase alcoholic beverages.
Amendment #5: Treasurer Selection
Allows for the open election of a District Treasurer at the Annual CNH
District Convention.
Amendment #6: District Secretary
Makes the District Secretary a non‐voting member of the Board of Trustees
and sets forth criteria for entering into employment contracts with a District
Secretaryor person seeking employment as District Secretary. Reduces the
maximum number of years an employment contract may be entered into,
strives to identify conflicts of interest and attempts to provide more
transparent financial disclosure. Places restrictions on the early renewal of
the District Secretary’s employment contract. Addresses “The Special
Committee on Employment of the District Secretary” as well as the
“Search Committee” in the event of a vacancy in the office of the
District Secretary.
Resolution:
Kiwanis delegates approved a memorial resolution to honor Past District
Governor Richard “Dick” Prada, who died June 10, 2010
